Presentation at Pisgah TU
I recently had the privilege of speaking at Pisgah TU in Hendersonville, NC. The topic was Small Stream Tactics. Many anglers make the mistake of skipping the small streams, thinking it’s not fun to fish. But they are fun to fly fish, especially in the summer during the warm days. The cool mountain water is refreshing. You leave the waders behind and enjoy the brisk water and fast takes by the trout.
Many don’t take advantage of the arsenal of tactics that you can employ on a small stream. Many of the tactics focus on dealing with tree branches, the number one challenge in fly fishing small streams. In the class, I presented the pros and cons of short versus long rods and how to match the rod to the casting style. Folks also saw how to convert your leader setup to a dapping rig quickly. Lessons in casting, reading the water, and dapping will surely open more opportunities on small creeks.
It was great to talk with the folks who came to the class. Thanks to Diane for hosting the class indoors in downtown Hendersonville. It was a great time for me, and I hope everyone learned something new. Thanks to everyone who came.
