Fly Fishing Courses
Fly Fishing Foundations
The Fly Fishing Foundations half-day class is for beginners or new fly anglers wanting to learn how to fly fish. The class topics include equipment, knots and rigging, fly casting, line management, playing trout, and NC regulations. Get your fly fishing journey started right with a professionally trained instructor. Available in half-day class or as full-day private instruction.
Fly Casting
Fly casting is the single most important skill a fly fisherman can master. This one-day class will teach you casting concepts, provide you with drills, and offer a path to improve your fly casting. The class expands on the basic roll cast and focuses on aerial casting, slack line casts, and distance.
Hatches and Fly Selection
The Hatches and Fly Selection for Trout class focuses on learning angler entomology and selecting a fly pattern for trout fishing. Participants will learn an integrated system that incorporates observing hatches, water type, and trout behavior into the process of selecting a fly pattern for trout fishing.
Strategies and Tactics for Fly Fishing
This 2 day in-depth Fly Fishing Course teaches you how to fish the water column more effectively using the four fundamental tactics of dry fly fishing, wet fly fishing, nymphing, and streamer fishing. The course also teaches you how to read the water, locate trout, and, more importantly, synergize your tactic with positioning for the best possible opportunity.
Becoming a fly angler is a lifelong journey in learning. The skill, knowledge, and instincts required to become a master fly angler are on a deeper level. One will need to understand the ecosystem of trout, the insects they eat, and how trout eat them. Skills need to flow smoothly through you, making the rod an extension of your body. You instinctively know where to stand and where to cast, anticipating the drift and how a trout will see the fly.
Courses are a mix of classroom settings and hands-on practice with an emphasis on comprehension and retention. Lessons are built around understanding why concepts are important, what you need to know, and how to master the material. Additionally, lessons will pose “what if” situations to stimulate problem-solving on the water. Each course will have handouts for future reference.
