2-day Advanced Fly Fishing Course
Strategies for Fly Fishing
Strategies for Fly Fishing Course
Imagine you are wading upstream on a warm spring day. The March Browns are active, so you tied on a March Brown dry fly. Things are going well when you see it: darker water at the end of a wave train, a prime spot for a large trout. After reading the water, you realize you need to move upstream to get a good drift over the prime spot. You move upstream to make a downstream approach with a down-and-across hook cast. You angle the rod to throw a sidearm cast, and just at the right time, you add some speed to the line. The fly hooks and floats perfectly over the prime spot. The hard work pays off…a large brown confidently takes the fly.
A master angler observes a situation and discerns the correct approach. Fishing isn’t random; it's deliberate. A master angler knows what fly fishing tactic to employ, how to read the water, and most importantly, how to synergize the location of the trout, tactics employed, and determine the best approach for success. This is especially important in heavily pressured water.
Strategies for Fly Fishing Class teaches you the four fundamental fly fishing tactics: wet fly fishing, dry fly fishing, nymphing, and streamer fishing. Additionally, how to read the water, and most importantly, how to use this information to determine the best angle of approach and cast angle. The mark of a master angler is having the ability to discern the best approach for a given situation.
Anglers will benefit from the Strategies for Fly Fishing Class by learning…
What are the needs of a trout?
Where are the trout in the stream?
How does the current affect my presentation?
What are the four fundamental tactics for fly fishing?
How do I determine which tactic to employ?
How do you determine the best angle of approach to get the best presentation?
In this 2-day class, you will learn tactics and rigging for wet fly fishing, dry fly fishing, nymph fishing, and streamer fishing. Additionally, you will learn how to read the water to determine the location of the trout and how to determine which tactic to use. Finally, you will put it all together by learning how to discern the best possible approach for the given situation. This is a holistic course combining the skills and knowledge of tactics with the ability to discern when to apply them.
